Shri Sharad Pawaris rightly regarded as father of the horticultural revolution in Maharashtra. Soon after he became Minister of Agriculture in the early 70's, he brought about a revolution in thought and action in the field of agriculture by designing and introducing a minimum yield guarantee scheme in wheat and other crops through appropriate packages of technology, services and public policies. He helped the dry land farmers of Maharashtra to reap benefit from scientific horticulture. He has been working
tirelessly to bring the benefits of biotechnology and other frontier technologies to resource poor farming families.

As Chief Minister of the State for many years he imparted momentum to the agricultural research, education and extension programmes of the state. Above all, he introduced innovative policies for women's empowerment and gender equity and justice. I pray for his long life and happiness so that he can continue to provide leadership to our country.
