Shri. Sharad Pawar has put Baramati on Maharashtra's political map. Baramati was a rural, agricultural region until he came on the scene. Today, his constituency is one of the most industrialized in western Maharashtra. And though Baramati has always received scanty rainfall, the water management scheme launched by Shri Sharad Pawar back in 1970 ensures even today that the region is not affected when the rest of the state is suffering from a drought.

Shri. Sharad Pawar has created a new mega city for information technology under the aegis of Vidya Pratishthan, Baramati, Dist. Pune (Maharashtra). Right from the beginning, Hon. Sharad Pawar believed that modern technology must reach every remote community, village and agricultural farm. He had always maintained that students from Baramati should be able to get an access to the latest technology, scientific information and education and it is through his efforts that this rnega city has come into existence. Today, various curricula and research associated with it is being practiced at this center.
His efforts have resulted in procurement of five mobile computer laboratories for providing computer education to students and citizen in rural areas around Baramati. Today students from more than 100 schools from Baramati Tehsil are benefiting from these laboratories. Dr. Craig Barrett and Mrs. Barbara1 Barrett along with a group of technical experts visited the IT center at Baramati on 2nd Nov. 2006. Vidya Pratishthan Campus, the IT center, mobile laboratories, the newly computerized Marathi Primary School, General Services Center and inspected the latest facilities there. He also visited Cadet village, the native place of Hon, Sharad Pawar.
Katewadi, Tal. Baramati on the part of becoming the first ever "Cyber Gram”
With the active Co-operation between Government of India and world renowned "Intel" of USA, Katewadi the native place of Hon. Sharad Pawar minister for agriculture, gets the honor becoming the first "Cyber Gram" in India. Recently, Dr. Craig Barrett, Chairman of Intel and his wife Mrs. Barbara Barrett visited Katewadi, Tal. Baramati, Dist. Pune. This visit be nefitted citizens of Baramati in a number of ways. The Barrett coup Ie visited and inspected the multipurpose IT enabled service (kiosk) set up in collaboration with mtel at Katewadi and expressed happiness find ing that villages are ben efitt ing greatly ffom the kiosk. Sou. Sunetra Pawar daughter-in-low of Hon. Sharad Pawar has taken great initiative in making various schemes at Katewadi successful. This "kiosk" facility was established with active support from the Reliance group, Union Bank of India, ICICI Bank. Agricultural Department of Maharashtra State and the Central Government, Several communication companies and some other service organisations. Remote Diagnosis and Treatment Guidance Center:
Under the auspices of 'Intel, the world Leader' mission of Intel inc. a computerised diagnosis and treatment center for heart and eye-disorders was inaugurated at Baramati at the hands of the Chairman of the Intel Group Or. Craig Barrett. This is the first such center in Maharashtra. This occasion will certainly be considered as a golden day in the history of the IT and medical knowledge sector of Maharashtra. The contribution of Dr. Amol Go|e, Head of the IT Center of Vidya Pratishthan to this initiative is also very significant. This new programme, commenced at the Primary Health Center at Baramati, has received active co-operation and guidance from Na ray ana Hridayalaya, Bangalore for heart diseases, and from Arwind Netra Rugnalaya, Madurai for eye diseases for the purpose of quick diagnosis and treatment. Further collaboration from the H. v. Desai Hospital, S. N. Informatix is also envisaged. Reports by medical experts on diagnosis of patients from this center, wili be transmitted to Bangalore and Madurai instantly. Similarly, detailed guidance measures will be received through satellite communication immediately at Bararnati and accordingly the patients will be advised regarding rurther treatment. For this Intel has gifted the "Co re 2 Duo Software Integrated System" to this center. This new pattern from Baramati has commenced operations. This activity will be extended to the entire Baramati Tehsil initially and later, on it will be adopted in all the tatuka places of Maharashtra. The selection of Baramati for this pilot project is the result of Hon. Shrarad Pawar's long term vision in this field.
General Services Center (Kiosk):
Katewadi, Tehsil Ba ramati, Dist. Pune, Maharashtra is the birth place of Hon. Sharad Pawar. Infrastructure Lea sing and Financial Services is a lead ing Indian company providing development finance for Infra structural projects in India. With active support from this company arid collaboration with the world renowned IT company 'Intel', Government of India has decided to set up a large number of General Service Centers all over India. These centers will have experts in the IT field and they will provide essential services to the local populace. These experts will be trained by the Vidya Pratishthan IT Center. Intel will provide the latest internet communication Y-max facilities for this center as well as for the entire Baramati area. Government of India has approved a plan to set up 10000 such centers under the E-goverance scheme. The Katewadi project will serve as a pilot project for this programme.

7. Giving information about agricultural commodities and related goods.
8. Giving information about health matters, climate, epidemics etc.
9. Immediate consultation on agricultural matters through computers.
10. Testing of water soil and fertilizer.
11. Giving information about hiring or purchasing of agricultural equipments.
12. Providing diagnostic and treatment guidance services through IT.
